Kaspar Hamacher is a Belgian designer who uses wooden logs to create unique stools. The method used to get the desired result is rather unusual. The stools are created by setting a log on fire. The burnt away sections shape the log until it finally starts to look like a stool. The bark is also stripped from the log and the result is a clean and artistic form. The project is called Ausgebrannt which means “burnt out” in German.
Initially, a credenza used to be a furniture piece on which food that needed to be tested for poison was kept. This was a ritual done before serving important people and aristocrats. Back then, the credenza had no legs. More modern designs such as the one for the Blade Credenza, show a few design transformations. This one has large doors made from a single board of elm wood and brass door pulls. It sits on a steel frame plated in antique brass and this offers it a slim figure.
Alwa One Big is a table that truly celebrates glass and its unique particularities. As you can see, it has a thick glass top with bubbles and streaks and these details are characteristics of handmade glass and not imperfections. These details make each table unique and special. Also, each table top features slight variations of color, also related to the manufacturing technique. The table is designed by Sebastian Herkner.
