Kaspar Hamacher is a Belgian designer who uses wooden logs to create unique stools. The method used to get the desired result is rather unusual. The stools are created by setting a log on fire. The burnt away sections shape the log until it finally starts to look like a stool. The bark is also stripped from the log and the result is a clean and artistic form. The project is called Ausgebrannt which means “burnt out” in German.
Sideboards usually have short legs and in some cases they even go all the way down to the floor. Also, the traditional kind sometimes featured a hutch at the top which was used for the display of China and other things. Modern sideboards such as this one from Fiona McDonald have little in common with the original designs. Nevertheless, they keep alive the spirit and charm of this furniture piece. The term sideboard is the most widely used one from the ones previously mentioned.
Diversity is good even when the space is small. A seating area with a single sofa and maybe even an accent chair or two could use two or perhaps even three coffee tables. Actually, a combination between a coffee table and a side table seems to be just right in this case. Think outside the box to find the best design solution for the space.
