Some ideas are so deep-rooted in our minds that we don’t even think twice or consider alternatives for them. For instance, when furnishing a living room, it’s a given to have a coffee table somewhere at the center of the whole setting. But what if you were to rethink this idea and choose instead of give up the table altogether and to fill the space with something else or to have two or more coffee tables instead of just one?
Sideboards usually have short legs and in some cases they even go all the way down to the floor. Also, the traditional kind sometimes featured a hutch at the top which was used for the display of China and other things. Modern sideboards such as this one from Fiona McDonald have little in common with the original designs. Nevertheless, they keep alive the spirit and charm of this furniture piece. The term sideboard is the most widely used one from the ones previously mentioned.
We’ll remain in the sphere of seating units made of tree stumps and we’ll continue with these beautiful benches and stools that combine wood and metal in a seamless manner. This is a series designed by Hilla Shamia, called Wood Casting. The elements included are made by inserting lengths of tree trunk into a mould and filling the gaps with molten metal.
